"Brian Simpson" Order of the British Empire/OBE is a British politician who was Member of the European Parliament for the Labour Party (UK)/Labour Party for North West England (European Parliament constituency)/North West England.

Simpson was a member of the European Parliament from 1989 until 1999 representing Cheshire East (European Parliament constituency)/Cheshire East and from 1999 until 2004 representing the North West Region, when European Elections switched from First Past the Post to the List System. He lost his seat at the European Parliament election, 2004 (UK)/2004 European Parliamentary Elections. He returned to the European Parliament in September 2006 and was re-elected again in 2009.

He was the President of the European Parliaments Transport and Tourism Committee after serving as the Socialist Group Spokesperson on that Committee for many years. He was also a substitute member and Labour spokesperson on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. He was also a full member of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand as well as a substitute on the Delegation for relations with the Andean Community.

We can't watch all those kids. We're teaching them responsibility; if they cheat (at practice) then they're cheating themselves.

A lot of athletes came by telling me they broke personal records. I was impressed; some of the times turned in were very nice times.

It's really a team activity. The kids work together, critique each other's events and talk about what they need to do.

Our No. 1 goal is for the athletes to learn about speed and quickness. Hopefully they'll leave track and field and it will help some of the other sports they compete in.

In the past, when things didn't go our way, we'd just let things snowball. This group has grown a lot. They have learned how to keep their composure and just fight. And tonight was a big step in the right direction. This was a good win for us.
