The Glenn Close model makes the most sense — a hard-assed, hard-nosed leader for a male-oriented group. It used to be that if a woman played a tough leader role, it was seen that she was not a woman, but asexual or gay.

Traditionally, whether presidents are portrayed as tough warriors or not, you'll see his soft side, but largely manifested through the largely different role of the president's wife. She'll have to have a husband, and chances are they can't present her as an emasculating wife.

The golden rule has always been to remake films that were not a success, if you saw something in them. To remake a movie that's already a milestone offers audiences very little that they haven't already seen, the way 'Lord of the Rings' did.

He's wanted to diminish the CGI as much as possible — and put a man in a suit with CGI changes. He was afraid of the whole thing looking like a cartoon; I suspect he's trying to make the character look as real as possible.
