"Wade Henderson" is president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and counsel to the Leadership Conference Education Fund.

The Leadership Conference is a civil and human rights coalition, charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. Through advocacy and outreach to targeted constituencies, the Leadership Conference works toward the goal of a more open and just society. The president has an important challenge and opportunity. He can choose a nominee who will unite the country in support of fundamental American rights and freedoms, or he can choose a judicial activist who can dramatically change the court's direction. I pray for the former but I expect the latter.
