FameRank: 4

"Vladimir Alvino Guerrero" is a Dominican Republic/Dominican former professional baseball player who spent 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). A right fielder and designated hitter, he has played for the Montreal Expos (1996–2003), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2004–2009), Texas Rangers (baseball)/Texas Rangers (2010), and Baltimore Orioles (2011).

In , he was voted the American League (AL) Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award/Most Valuable Player (MVP). He helped lead the Angels to five American League West/AL West championships (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009), and was voted as one of the most feared hitters in baseball in a 2008 poll of all 30 major league managers.

A nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star Game/All Star, he was widely recognized as one of the best all-around players in the game because of his impressive offensive production, regularly hitting for power and average, and, prior to injuries that robbed him of range, stellar defense and strong throwing arms. He was also regarded as the game's premier "bad ball hitter," for his ability to consistently hit balls thrown well outside of his strike zone, a skill made evident on August 14, 2009, when Guerrero hit a pitch which bounced in front of home plate.

I think it probably seemed like I was anxious because I was swinging at bad pitches. I was thinking about it, but I'm going to keep swinging. Sometimes it looks bad and sometimes it doesn't, but I'm not going to stop swinging.

That game taught me my uppercut.

I always swing at bad pitches, ... But lately I was swinging at even worse ones.

We're really close, ... My mom's very important to me. It's nice to go home after games and forget about it - enjoy the game and then enjoy the family atmosphere.

Mickey was right, ... I was too close to the plate.

I'm very happy for the fans. I wanted to do it at home. During the ovation, I wanted to run out to right field, forgetting that I was the DH.

A lot of the talk before was suitcases and how many do you have, how many are you going to send home? ... Nowadays, we don't even talk about that. It's fun to talk about just playing the game and finishing strong and extending the season. My focus has changed from thinking about suitcases to how we extend the season deep into October.

If something looks good, I'm swinging. They pay me to hit. I look at the ball and swing.

It's not a big game. It's very important to win today, but just to break the streak they had.
