A lot of the enthusiasm at U of O is built on its traditions. I hope to reconnect with that past enthusiasm. The wonderful men's track and field team generated a lot of enthusiasm last spring by winning the outdoor Pac-10 Championship. We hope the same energy will carry over into fall.

The women ran tough today and to come within a couple of points against a very good Washington team proves that they ran well. Individually, I was happy with everyone, and Katie Leary in particular showed well today.

I expect all of my runners to come out as leaders on both teams. They all have leadership traits, and I hope to pool those resources.

Very impressive. I've never seen anybody open at 19 feet before, that takes a lot of guts. Tommy is an exciting athlete with tremendous potential. He and Dan Steele are a wonderful match.

We are concentrating on one meet at a time. We have some tough races in the next five weeks, and we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. The enthusiasm on this team is outstanding, and if the coaches and athletes can continue that positive attitude for the rest of the season, I'm confident that we will achieve success as individuals and as a team.

I like to have full-time coaches being responsible for our athletes. Obviously, it was a good decision.

It's one thing to put the bar up there. It's another thing to clear it. It was very impressive.

The women's team has a solid pack through six runners, and we won't plan to rely on just one person to compete well. It will be a true team effort.

Everybody knows that Tommy is a wonderful athlete. I think last year is behind him and he's excited about the new year. If he can look at the indoor season as a means to an end, I believe he can turn it into a great positive for the outdoor season.
