Defensively, we have to have the first man on the scene make the play. If we miss tackles or blow assignments, they have the talent to make you look bad.
Offensively, we need more intensity out of our line. We didn't get off the ball well last week and that really hurt our running game.
Our kids understand they have to be the two-time defending champions. But we have a huge challenge against Woodland (tonight).
We keep sinking our hopes with self-inflicted wounds. Once we eliminate the mental mistakes and blown assignments, we'll start seeing the wins.
It's tough to lose like that for anybody, especially when you're the team that walks off with the loss.
Offensively, we have to eliminate mental mistakes. We didn't pick up the blitzing linebackers at all last week and Southwest likes to blitz their linebackers. We have worked hard this week and I expect our offensive line and fullback to do a better job.
We played until the end. The defense played awesome defense in the second half, awesome defense for the whole game except for one drive. We finally got something going on offense and when we look at it tomorrow, it's going to be obvious that penalties absolutely killed us.
Big game this week. First road game, first conference game and Washington comes in with a lot of momentum. We've got to put that first loss behind us and move on. (Washington) has speed and a lot of athletes on defense.
We've got to do a better job of taking advantage of our opportunities and eliminate our turnovers. That was the difference last week.
