"Anthony Francis "Tony" Fernandes", Order of the British Empire/CBE is a Malaysians/Malaysian Entrepreneurship/entrepreneur. He is the founder of Tune Air Sendirian Berhad/Sdn. Bhd., who introduced the first Low-cost carrier/budget no-frills airline, AirAsia, to Malaysians with the tagline "Now everyone can fly". Fernandes managed to turn AirAsia, a failing government-linked commercial airline, into a highly successful budget airline public company/public-listed company. He has since founded the Tune Group of companies.

He was also instrumental in lobbying the then-Prime Minister of Malaysia/Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad/Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in mid-2003, to propose the idea of open skies agreements with neighbouring Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore. As a result, these nations have granted landing rights to AirAsia and other Low-cost carrier/discount carriers.

As of February 2014, Forbes Asia valued Fernandes' net worth at $650 million, ranking him at number 28 on the Forbes list of Malaysia's Richest.

As long as we are enjoying ourselves, that's the most important thing.

It was strange when I first came to the airline. The pilots freaked out because they suddenly saw their CEO pushing the ladder (to the plane).

We have some teething issues but other than that everything is great.

Watch out, Singapore, is all I have to say.

I think high oil prices will sort out the efficient and non-efficient players in the airline industry.

It's a dream come true for us. A few years ago we were just a two-plane operation and now we have our own home.

Both of us working together will win big-time. With so much global competition, it really makes sense to combine our strength.
