"Tanyon James Sturtze" is a former Major League Baseball pitcher.

He attended Saint Peter-Marian High School then Quinsigamond Community College and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft. In , he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft. He pitched two innings, allowing two runs, with the major league team that year. He spent the next two seasons alternating between the Triple-A Iowa Cubs and the Chicago Cubs, and in , he signed with the Texas Rangers (baseball)/Texas Rangers, again alternating between the major and minor league squads. In , he did not play major league ball, and in , he became a member of the Chicago White Sox, becoming a permanent major league reliever. He was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays/Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for Tony Graffanino in the season, and became a key starter for the perennially last-place Devil Rays. However, the season was a dismal one for Sturtze; he had a 4-18 record and led the majors in losses (18), earned runs allowed (129), hits allowed (271), walks allowed (89) and batters faced (1008). He was also seventh in innings pitched (224) and games started (33), and third in home runs allowed (33).

I just made a bad pitch, and he jumped on it, ... I took a chance at that time because I knew Ichiro was coming up behind him and I didn't want to put him on base.

We're all happy for him, and I think he's probably happy he's playing well when so many people talked so poorly about him last year. Now he's able to do the things he's doing.

It was 2-0 on the catcher and I didn't want to walk him. I made a bad pitch and he jumped on it. I had to take that chance, because I knew Ichiro [Suzuki] was coming up behind him, and I didn't want to put him on base.

They're giving me a couple of days here, so hopefully after all this treatment and rest, everything will be fine.

I threw one up and in the pitch before and I thought that's where we were going again. Jorgie thought we were going to go sinker. It was just miscommunication between me and him.

I was a little sore that week or so, but I think I've gotten over that hump and I'm back to where I was before, ... I feel great.

My shoulder's just a little bit tired, ... Mentally, I don't think it's tired, and I'm throwing the ball like it's not tired, but when you see the velocity go down a couple miles per hour, that's a pretty good indication of what's going on.

You don't know if he's OK or not, but I had a job to do. I had guys that I had to try to get out. I was just hoping he was OK.
