"Shivraj Vishwanath Patil" is an Indian politician who has been Governor of the state of Punjab, India/Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh since 2010. Previously, he was the Speaker of Lok Sabha/Speaker of the 11th Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996 and served in Manmohan Singh's cabinet as Ministry of Home Affairs (India)/Union Minister of Home Affairs from 2004 to 2008. He also served in the Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi cabinets as Minister of Defence during the 1980s.

Patil resigned from the post of Home Minister on 30 November 2008, following widespread criticism raised after November 2008 Mumbai attacks/terrorist attacks on Mumbai, and took moral responsibility for the security lapse that led to the attacks.
