There was a lot of patting ourselves on the back in that speech, but it was pretty short on substance.

I think it's very timely that Indiana sets up and provides more dollars for student loans at a time when the U.S. Congress is just about going in the opposite direction.

There was no discussion about health insurance and health care costs, which in my opinion is the number one economic development issue in place in this state.

We have been talking about full-day kindergarten, and every time it comes up, everybody says they're for it, but nobody wants to bite the bullet and do it and it never gets done. In my opinion, the only way full-day kindergarten will ever be implemented in the state of Indiana is if we commit the next legislature to do it.

This session is all about trying to get well with the voters before November.
