[Officials insist the problem was resources.] The old Harding was understaffed, under-equipped and underfunded, ... We've never had the chance to succeed before.

The ideal scenario would be being the No. 1 tight end, ... It stinks to put in all the work and not play. When they told me they wanted to try me at defensive end, I said, 'If it'll get me on the field, I'll do it.'

There are a lot of good football players there. His mother [Martha] and I couldn't be more proud of how hard he's worked and the commitment he's made.

The parents were in the process of loading the stove into the car in the back yard when they heard the girl screaming.

We wanted him to pick what was best for him and not go there because my picture was hanging on the wall [outside the locker room].

This isn't the way I hoped to get an opportunity, because we're all real close, ... I would have liked to be in there from the get-go. All I can ask for is a shot, no matter how you get it. This is my chance, and I really want to make good on it.

I was kind of thrown in there after running scout team most of the year, and I wasn't really prepared.

But it's tough going back and forth [to defense]. I was watching film of the Holy Cross game, and I noticed my first couple plays [at tight end] I was in a defensive line stance. I looked like a fool.

I think they picked an awful day weatherwise, but it doesn't seem to have dampened the crowd at all. I haven't had to wait in line all day.
