Scott Ritter
FameRank: 4

"William Scott Ritter, Jr." was a United Nations Special Commission/United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998, and later a critic of United States foreign policy in the Middle East. Prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq/invasion of Iraq in March 2003, Ritter stated that Iraq possessed no significant weapons of mass destruction (WMD) capabilities. He became a popular anti-war figure and talk show commentator as a result of his stance.

In 2001, Ritter on two occasions was detained and later arrested on charges of soliciting minors for sex on the Internet that were both dismissed. He was arrested on similar charges in 2010 that led to a conviction and sentence of one and a half to five and a half years.

Iraq has not been disarmed 100 percent (but) in terms of what they (Iraqis) have accomplished there are no meaningful weapons or weapons production capability in Iraq today.

It has been estimated that 80 percent of the oil illegally smuggled out of Iraq under 'oil for food' ended up in the United States.

Has not been demonstrated to pose a threat worthy of war at this time.

We had the information. We had the goods on the Iraqis, clear and irrefutable evidence of Iraq's prohibited activities. We caught them red-handed.

We can't go to war based on ignorance.

There has been no case made -- based on anything other than speculation -- that Iraq poses a threat.

I know that inspections did work, ... We achieved a 90 to 95 percent level of verified, absolutely certain accountability for Iraq's weapons program.

We are the ones responsible to determine whether the war that our marines, soldiers and airmen are fighting in is worth the cause.

This refusal ... in effect means we cannot carry out our inspection and is a failure of Iraq to comply with its obligations.
