Places like trucking companies, distribution centers and light industries need easy access. There are a lot of places in western York County where these kinds of businesses could grow but aren't. This transportation artery might be the missing piece of the puzzle.
He waved an olive branch. He was trying to lay the groundwork for this session. He wanted the legislators to know that this year would be different, that his relationship with them would be collegial rather than adversarial.
You can't get your message out without money.
If you have population or businesses moving in, there will be an increase in the tax base. If they do away with property taxes, there will still be more people buying things. The more people, the more businesses, the greater the tax revenue.
There is a forgetting curve.
What this shows is that York County won't be forgotten. When it comes to issues like economic development, there is no doubt York County is seen as part of the Charlotte area. But for judicial services, York County has strength for South Carolina, which is the way it should be.
That's always a problem. You have a few thousand people move in, and they tax the utilities. It puts a strain on natural resources. There are environmental costs to rapid growth.
Mike Campbell has really been handed a gift, the more and more people who get in the race, the harder and harder it is for him to take advantage of it.
Growth brings money, but growth never comes without cost. A surge in population can also stretch the limits of our infrastructure.
