The only things officers are asking for until they are armed is RCMP backup when there's a potentially armed-dangerous person heading for the border.
That's how they decided to deal with it. 'I'll call you every 15 minutes to see if you're alive.' There's an acknowledgement from everyone that the border officers need to be armed, especially in these remote locations.
But the reality is that we don't live in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood anymore. The reality is that our officers should be armed.
On that issue and in support of public security.
All our officers are looking at is staying alive.
In light of the fact that this individual... shot at a law enforcement officer, once again border agents are saying we're not putting our lives at risk in these kinds of situations.
They're dealing with individuals with nothing to lose.
