Roger Griffith
FameRank: 3

"Roger Griffith" is an United States/American basketball executive, and the current general manager (basketball)/General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Minnesota Lynx.

Griffith initially worked for the Lynx' sibling team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to that, he had worked for Timberwolves and Lynx owner Glen Taylor at Taymark.

Griffith succeeded the Lynx's first coach and general manager, Brian Agler, in 2003. While his hiring was relatively uneventful, he eventually received some criticism from fans, especially during a long playoff drought during the first part of his tenure as General Manager. These calls stopped, however, after Griffith hired coach Cheryl Reeve, and built a team around Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen, and Maya Moore. The team won three Western Conference (WNBA)/Western Conference championships and two WNBA Finals/WNBA championships between 2011 and 2013.

Griffith is married to the daughter of Lynx and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, and the two have two children.

Last year we think we did suffer a little bit because we had people coming in every two or three days. People were not arriving until the last two or three days of training camp. To really have all but one player here from the beginning, we think is going to be very, very valuable to any success we have this season.

We are one player, maybe a player and a half, from becoming a major factor.

Wow, it's hard to picture at this point. It would have to be a very significant player who can automatically make a difference.

She's a very good player, very talented. Right now, we're still in the evaluation process.

Any one of them can help us now. We are optimistic. We are set up to be an up-tempo and defensive-minded team next season.

With our youth and talent, we think this is a team that can not only be successful now, but be together for a long time.

She brings leadership, maturity and professionalism to our franchise. It is very important for the development of our young team to have a player with these qualities.

She is recognized, she is signing autographs, there are crowds forming. People know who she is. It is unbelievably exciting. This is what we dreamed it could be when we selected her.
