"Richard Lee Petty", nicknamed "The King", is a former NASCAR driver who raced in the Strictly Stock/Grand National Era and the Sprint Cup Series/NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He is most well known for winning the NASCAR Championship seven times (Dale Earnhardt is the only other driver to accomplish this feat), winning a record 200 races during his career, winning the Daytona 500 a record seven times, and winning a record 27 races (ten of them consecutively) in the 1967 season alone. (A 1972 rule change eliminated races under in length, reducing the schedule to 30 [now 36] races.) Statistically he is the most accomplished driver in the history of the sport and is one of the most respected figures in motorsports as a whole. He also collected a record number of poles (127) and over 700 top-ten finishes in his 1,184 starts, including 513 consecutive starts from 1971–1989. Petty was the only driver to ever win in his 500th race start, until Matt Kenseth joined him in 2013. Petty is a member of the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Hall in 2010.

So I've realized that this outfit is part of Richard Petty now. And the real Richard Petty is still hidden behind these glasses.

This is just to get the kids ready to play. It's not about the score of the games. We want the boys to learn what they can from this. It helps the coaches see where we're at and what we need to be working on.

If there are 10 people there, two or three are going to recognize you.

If guys don't respect themselves, they don't respect other people. That's times and personalities. And all of them are not that way. But it don't take but one or two to screw up the whole crowd.

No one wants to quit when he's losing and no one wants to quit when he's winning.

We ran a whole lot with him. I don't remember him ever causing any trouble, running over anybody or beating on anybody's head as far as Cup racing. I guess they'll remember him as a happy-go-lucky guy. That was my perspective of him.

Now they're getting so politically correct you can't even stick your tongue out at somebody.

All the boys did real good for their first time out. You couldn't ask for any better. We've got a few bugs to work out, but that's what this was for. We're going to keep practicing and get better.

I don't now what situation they came from and I don't know what they were offered to go somewhere else. It's the times now, There's not a any loyalty for anyone or anything -- a whole lot. Wherever the money's at, that's where they're going, so I don't blame them. They've got just a few years to get it done and if they don't get it done then, then they aren't going to get it done.
