The idea of the Clean Air Act is that you make clean air by making new plants clean and the old ones would retire. What has happened is that the old plants have not retired.

Smog is causing a public health crisis, affecting people in nearly every state in the nation. It's time to take aggressive action to protect public health and clean the air.

Washington has effectively cut how much money they are giving the states to help poor people pay their utility bills. States are scrambling to make up for the cuts in federal funds. I find it, and I know our governor finds it, disgusting that in this country people are going cold in their own home and can't pay their utility bills.

We think the [new] standard should be enforced.

These are common-sense initiatives that will make Illinois a healthier place to live, and will save consumers money at the gas pump.
