Edge has an expressive look that evokes a connection with the customer's lifestyle. It was important that we design Edge to have maximum flexibility in the amount of gear it can accommodate while still offering customers a contemporary vehicle they can take out on the town.

We look to spot design trends. We'll have a team go around and take pictures and measurements and then we'll sit down with the head of product development and talk about which ideas tend to be the most relevant. Part of my job is to decide what's the next blockbuster trend, and you don't get that looking at pie charts.

We brought out the Ford 427 concept sedan a couple of years ago, at the same time Fusion development was under way in our styling studios. The reaction to the three-bar grille on the 427 was such a success we went back to the studios and changed Fusion's front end.
