We understand and respect Florida is a tourism-based economy, ... We don't want to unnecessarily alarm anyone, but we think visitors should know what the law is on the books starting Saturday.

I can't understand why anybody would be opposed to telling visitors what the law is. No state in America has ever passed a law like this one.

It is reasonable to make people know that while they're visiting Florida they should take the right precautions to avoid potentially being victims of violence.

There is no other state in the nation — and no other civilized nation on Earth — that has a law like this, ... It could cause the most aggressive people in society to overreact.

It's a particular risk faced by travelers coming to Florida for a vacation because they have no idea it's going to be the law of the land. If they get into a road rage argument, the other person may feel he has the right to use deadly force.

The biggest myth in Florida is [that] this is about protecting people who use legitimate self-defense. This law ... sends a message to people who are potentially unstable and have an itchy trigger finger that as long as they can make a reasonable case they were in fear, they can use deadly force against somebody.

This is a byproduct of having missed the boat in Florida. We have been watching like a hawk for this to surface in other states.
