"Patricia Sue "Pat" Summitt" is a former women's college basketball head coach. She now serves as the Coach (basketball)/head coach emeritus of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball/Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team. She holds the most all-time wins for a coach in National Collegiate Athletic Association/NCAA basketball history of either a men's or women's team in any division. She coached from 1974 to 2012, all with the Lady Vols, winning eight NCAA national championships, behind only the record 10 titles won by University of California, Los Angeles/UCLA men's coach John Wooden and the 9 titles won by University of Connecticut/UConn women's coach Geno Auriemma. She was the first coach in NCAA history, and one of four college coaches overall, to achieve at least 1,000 victories.

Summitt was named the Naismith Basketball Coach of the Century in April 2000. In 2009, the Sporting News placed her number 11 on its list of the 50 Greatest Coaches of All Time in all sports; she was the only woman on the list. In 38 years as a coach, she never had a losing season. On April 20, 2012, the White House announced that Pat Summitt would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. Summitt received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPY Awards.

Losing is one thing. Losing the way we did tonight is unacceptable.

You have to make shots. That's the bottom line.

Losing the way we lost is unacceptable in this program. We will learn from it.

I think with the players who have been here, regardless of whether they've been in that No. 1 position, that's what we're always trying to be -- the best team.

I just want her to play the game under control. And for her, it's much different from any player I've ever coached in that she can be flat-footed and go up and dunk. So it's not like things have to be perfect in her basketball world for her to dunk. If she goes up inside and dunks it, more power to her.

Everyone thinks we might curl up and die, both programs. I don't think it's going to happen, so put away your hankies.

Our team respects Texas. They have beaten us four in a row and beat us by 10 last year in Knoxville. We were not surprised.

She taught me that it's OK to let down your guard and allow your players to get to know you. They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

We feel like we get everybody's best shot because we're Tennessee, but we have to learn how to give everybody our best shot.
