I wanted kids to remember, and that's a good way to do it. I did all kinds of things with them such as spinning and weaving. We did Oregon Trail simulations.

I get into character and I tell them what my life is like as a pioneer woman. I never break character. When the kids talk about modern-day things like television, radios and computers, I ask them what those things are. The kids love it; they play right along.

I'm a woman of mystery. I can do anything but skinny.

We have so many costumes now we have a 12-by-12 building just for them.
