These guys have earned this type of scholarship. It's not for just any soldier that comes back from Iraq, ... who just need a little help getting there.

When you see something like that, you being to ask yourself: What is our responsibility, as a community? What things can we do to help those wounded in battle?

Hopefully, other communities start to see that they have soldiers in similar situations in their towns, and that they can do the same thing. We need to show our troops that we support what they have sacrificed.

We just gave him that first start.

We are only offering a hand, the heavy lifter in all of this has been Mendoza himself, and his ability to adapt and stay positive.

We need the capital for a crusher and a refinery, that's what it boils down to.

Jake was a good kid, ... He was determined to take the opportunity provided and succeed.

It gives him the mobility to do things. We want him to get out and see California on the weekends. We want to him to be able to do whatever he wants to do.
