The family unit prevailed in this case. It was an accident. A one-time accident.

Does anyone believe that Julie should be prosecuted for a felony or a misdemeanor as a result of an accident, a pure accident? So that's where we are...we're at an impasse because they have taken the initiative to launch a criminal investigation.

It was shocking to learn that a prominent city official was gagged, which made her unavailable during the so-called investigation. When she complies with the gag order, she's fired.

This was an accident. Everyone has to live with it and accept it and not point fingers. If this is negligence on her part, then 80 percent of mothers and fathers in Richmond better take notice.

It looks to me like Richmond will be known as scapegoat city.

We won't permit a political witch hunt, and we won't let the mother be declared a negligent mother. She's not responsible for the death of the bears. She's been in mourning like every one else.

She wants to move on. The child wants to move on.

I'm not here to suggest the child's mother made no mistakes. I'm here to suggest we can always second-guess parenthood. At times, parents should be second-guessed. Under these circumstances, I cry foul.

If that weren't bad enough, now they want to interrogate a young boy.
