"Lawrence Jeffery ("Mutt") Black" (July 20, 1951 – February 8, 2006) was an United States/American Athletics (sport)/athlete, winner of the gold medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay/4 x 100 m relay and silver medal in the 200 metres/200 m at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Born in Miami, Florida, graduating from Miami Killian High School/Miami Killian Senior High with a scholarship to North Carolina Central University, Larry Black won, as a North Carolina Central University student, the National Collegiate Athletic Association/NCAA championships in 1971.

At the 1972 Olympics, Black ran the opening leg in the American 4 x 100 m relay team. The team won a gold medal and equalled the United States' own List of world records in athletics/world record of 38.19 seconds. His cousin Gerald Tinker, also from the Miami area (rival Coral Gables Senior High School/Coral Gables High School), ran the third leg in that same gold medal winning race.

We understand the gang element here has automatic weapons, but we're ready for that. And these New Orleans police have been pressed to the wall. They need and deserve support.

We are not going in with guns blazing; I've told my people that. We are disciplined first. We'll respond appropriately to whatever we face.

This part of the city is under siege, and we are here to re-establish order; that's what we will do. And we're here to support the New Orleans Police Department.

We've got the critical mass of urban dwellers for them, with all the new building and conversions we've had. ... But with their popularity, their trading ring would be 60 or 70 miles, which would include Boulder and Colorado Springs.

Yes, reluctantly, yes... What we need is still in the building.
