It is particularly sad to hear that she has passed away while we are here in Helsinki for the IAAF World Championships, but it is also appropriate to honour her memory in the presence of the world's greatest athletes.

We'll literally have the world's best athletes here in Osaka. This will be a good opportunity for young Japanese athletes to see what the world is like.

We will do our utmost to show our commitment in the fight against doping. We plan to have the most ambitious and comprehensive system of testing ever activated at a world championships.

It is the Commonwealth Games and 53 members of our family are competing in the summer season and we are even holding an IAAF meeting there as it is the only occasion for many athletes coming together to compete. (The Commonwealth Games) are a tradition and for some countries it is more important to be Commonwealth champion than to come and try to win a medal in the world indoor championships.

This is a great loss, ... and our thoughts now go out to the family and friends of Colette Besson. I believe that she made a tremendous contribution to world athletics, as a charismatic and determined athlete in an age when women's athletics was still developing.

This is a landmark CAS decision and one that the IAAF welcomes as it continues to pursue its anti-doping fight with the utmost vigor.

This was a very decisive victory by Berlin and demonstrates that the council was convinced that we are taking our most important competition to the right place. When Berlin lost in their effort to bid for the 2005 edition of these championships, I was delighted to see that they immediately vowed to come back, and they really deserved it this time.
