L. Frank Baum
FameRank: 5

"Lyman Frank Baum", better known by his pen name "L. Frank Baum", was an American author chiefly known for his children's books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen novel sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a host of other works (55 novels in total, plus four "Lost work/lost" novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems, an unknown number of scripts, and many miscellaneous writings), and made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen. His works anticipated such century-later commonplaces as television, augmented reality, laptop computers (The Master Key (novel)/The Master Key), wireless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz), women in high risk, action-heavy occupations (Mary Louise in the Country), and the ubiquity of advertising on clothing (Aunt Jane's Nieces at Work).

Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz.

While Dorothy was looking earnestly into the queer, painted face of the Scarecrow, she was surprised to see one of the eyes slowly wink at her. She thought she must have been mistaken at first, for none of the scarecrows in Kansas ever wink; but presently the figure nodded its way down from the fence and walked up to it, while Toto ran around the pole and barked.

I can't give you a brain, but I can give you a diploma.

"Roads," observed the shaggy man, "don't go anywhere. They stay in one place, so folks can walk on them."

Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.
