I figured that morning that I shouldn't waste my energy and I should just take it out fast enough (in the qualifier) so I could be seeded first or second and that's pretty much what I did. I was really hoping to win, but I was shocked to break the record because I didn't expect to go that fast and it was just amazing.

I really wanted to win a gold. I just really wasn't feeling it, though.

I'm not (training) so much that I want to win. It's that I don't like to lose.

I really want to win this year. It's going to be tough. There is going to be a lot of good competition.

I won states last year, and I really wanted to get the gold. I'm swimming the 100 free (today) so I really want to go home with that gold.

It's nice having her because it helps [to push me] to train.
