"John Wesley " was an Anglicanism/ Anglican Anglican divine/divine and Christian theology/theologian who, with his brother Charles Wesley and fellow cleric George Whitefield, is credited with the foundation of the Evangelicalism/evangelical movement known as Methodism. His work and writings also played a leading role in the development of the Holiness movement and Pentecostalism.

Educated at Charterhouse School and Oxford University, Wesley was elected a fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford in 1726 and ordination/ordained a priest two years later. Returning to Oxford in 1729 after serving as curate at his father's parish, he led the Holy Club, a club for the purpose of study and the pursuit of a devout Christian life; it had been founded by his brother Charles, and counted George Whitefield among its members. After an unsuccessful ministry of two years at Savannah, Georgia/Savannah in the Georgia Colony, Wesley returned to London and joined a religious society led by Moravian Church/Moravian Christians. On 24 May 1738 he experienced what has come to be called his evangelical conversion, when he felt his "heart strangely warmed". He subsequently departed from the Moravians, beginning his own ministry.

I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out.

Every one, though born of God in an instant, yet undoubtedly grows by slow degrees.

The Bible knows nothing of solitary religion.

Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.

Once in seven years I burn all my sermons; for it is a shame if I cannot write better sermons now than I did seven years ago.

When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.

Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.

Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can.

When you set yourself on fire, people love to come and see you burn.
