The Katrina disaster happened to almost everybody in this newsroom. We're dealing with our own misery as well as trying to tell this story.
If copper wiring comes in, in a burnt format -- I hate to use that term, but that is what is often done to remove the covering from the copper -- it has lost about 50 percent of its original weight and we have no way of telling where it came from. All we can do is make sure we get valid identification from the person claiming they are the owner.
What happens now is that the reckoning begins. Two decades of concealing the truth and lying are coming to an end.
