I think I appreciate now a lot more what happened to me. The injury gave me a chance to reflect on how lucky I was that I made it [to the major leagues] in about 1 ½ years.

There wasn't a lot of pain, I just heard something pop.

I'm healthy. I'm not trying to prove that to anybody. Next time, it'll be better.

I was suckered into it. I was the one willing to try it. Mechanics? I didn't know what they were. I just threw all fastballs and I think I did pretty well. I can't remember it that well.

That was a pretty good pitch he hit. I'd throw that one again and take my chances.

I felt fine. My arm felt great. But everything was just moving out of the zone.

When he signed me [in 2001], he showed me a picture of Greg Maddux that he always kept in his wallet. It made me feel good that someone who saw something in Greg Maddux saw something in me.

I just kept the ball down, carried it through the zone and was getting ahead of guys.
