Jerry Sloan
FameRank: 5

"Gerald Eugene "Jerry" Sloan" is an American former National Basketball Association player and head coach, and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Former NBA commissioner David Stern called Sloan "one of the greatest and most respected coaches in NBA history." Sloan had a career regular-season win–loss record of 1,221–803, placing him third all-time in NBA wins at the time he retired. Sloan was only the fifth coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 victories and is one of three coaches in NBA history to record 1,000 wins with one club (the Utah Jazz). He also coached for one team longer than anyone in NBA history. The 2009-10 Utah Jazz season/2009–10 season was his 22nd season (and 21st full season) as coach of the Jazz. Sloan coached the Jazz to 15 consecutive playoff appearances from 1989–2003. Although he never won a Coach of the Year award, he is one of only four coaches in NBA history with 15-plus consecutive seasons with a winning record (Gregg Popovich, Pat Riley and Phil Jackson are the others). He led Utah to the NBA Finals in 1997 NBA Finals/1997 and 1998 NBA Finals/1998, but lost to the Chicago Bulls both times.

He just needs to shoot the ball when he's open. When he's done that, he's fine. When he hesitates a little bit on it, he has a little bit of a problem.

He got the ball inside, and he just threw it back out. I don't know if somebody threatened him in there, or what. But it looked like we were totally afraid.

They did everything they wanted to do tonight. They looked in mid-season form and we looked like we were in exhibition season not knowing what we're doing. Too many times we were confused as to what we wanted to do on offense and that caused us a lot of problems.

They are good and did a lot of good things, but our guys did not respond. That's the most disappointing game I've been involved with.

Andrei was terrific. He was all over the place. He was terrific defensively, he shot the ball well and did a terrific job passing the ball. I never took him out the second half. Usually I take him out, but he was so alive tonight I didn't take him out at all.

He was terrific. He made his shots and he's just a wonderful player. I think we're intimidated by him a great deal.

I kind of got that feeling after a while. If I'm being discussed, I kind of want to be there.

We didn't have much for them. It looked like we didn't belong.

That is one of those most disappointing games that I've been involved in. And for a game with this much significance.
