Our overall offer included several provisions to enhance job security. Still, we continue to believe that job security depends on our ability to improve quality and productivity.

The contract offer that we made to the IAM is respectful, balanced and well above market. We remain willing to discuss reasonable proposals around that offer.

I believe that our employees ought to be able to vote on the offer we've presented, ... I have faith and confidence in the employees of Boeing that they're going to speak their mind and they're going to express their wills.

Boeing has always provided a competitive package of total compensation that addresses the needs of all employees.

The offer we presented is balanced and competitive, respects the contributions of our team and compares favorably with recent contract settlements in our industry.

I think we're finally ready now to take that first step.

We believe this move undermines the integrity of the collective bargaining process and denies IAM-represented employees the right to exercise their vote.

Throughout these negotiations, we've been hearing from employees and their union representatives that ... they would prefer that we spend available money on retirement programs, incentives and lump sum cash payments rather than offering wage increases. With this offer, we are responding to that input.

During these negotiations, there has been a lot of discussion about pensions. What hasn't received much discussion is the concept of balance.
