This is a time of year when historically you see gas prices increase.

I haven't heard of any major refinery issues. The refineries have been continually producing.

We're seeing record highs across the state right now. It's primarily due to Hurricane Katrina, but previous factors like the rising cost of crude oil before this latest disaster and the fact that nation wide refineries are having things break down thereby creating less supply, were also factors.

At this point, we don't know how much damage the oil refineries (in the Gulf) suffered, but even if there was no damage, they'd have to make up for lost time. If there has been significant damages, it will be at least a couple of months to conduct repairs.

It happens every year at this time. It feels totally out of control, like you can't do anything about it. But you can.
