There's so much more subtlety to this new recording. There's a subtlety in the playing. There's also a subtlety in the way I approached the singing. The band was able to really capture the feeling of the songs and not really trade anything that we had sort of arranged for the live presentation, but the songs just aren't as loud.
"Jason Andrew Molina" was an Americans/American musician and singer-songwriter, originally from Lorain, Ohio. He came to prominence performing and recording as "Songs: Ohia", both in solo projects and with a rotating cast of musicians. Since 2003, he had recorded either under his own name or with a stable line-up of band members as the "Magnolia Electric Co."

I really started hearing a sound for the band for the first time instead of just hearing a sound for the record. So I started trying to put together a specific band that could record with me and also tour with me. And I felt that it was enough of a change in approach to warrant to a change of the name.
