"James T. Meeks" is a former Democratic Party (United States)/Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, who represented the 15th district from 2003 to 2013. He is also an active Baptist Minister (Christianity)/minister in Chicago and chaired the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus. He briefly campaigned for Mayor of Chicago in the Chicago mayoral election, 2011/2011 election before dropping out of the race. He has now become a leading figure in the campaign to prevent same-sex marriage in Illinois.
