Irfan Pathan
FameRank: 6

"Irfan Khan Pathan" is an Indian cricketer who made his debut for Indian national cricket team/India in the 2003/04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and was a core member of the national team until a decline in form set in during 2006, forcing him out of the team. Since then, he has been in and out of the limited-overs teams (ODIs and T20Is), and has only sporadic appearances in Test cricket. Pathan played his last Test in April, 2008 at the age of 24.

Beginning his career as a fast-medium swing bowler/swing and seam bowler, Pathan broke into the national team soon after turning 19, and evoked comparisons with Pakistan's Wasim Akram with his promising performances and prodigious swing. He cemented his position in the team and was named by the International Cricket Council as the 2004 Emerging Player of the Year. Pathan was instrumental in India's One-day international and Test series wins in Pakistan in 2004. He was described by the media as the "blue-eyed boy" of the Indian cricket. In late-2004 he took 18 wickets in two Tests against Bangladesh cricket team/Bangladesh, but the start of 2005 he performed poorly and conceded runs at a high rate, leading to a brief exile from the one-day international (ODI) team.

When I bowled my hat-trick delivery, I just tried to bowl normally at the right line and it worked.

I had not played much against them, especially the Test Cricket but they are well acquainted to the swing bowling. It will not be an easy task, the ground reality will be known only when we face them on field.

Getting Test wickets is not easy so achieving a hat-trick has to be up there. It's quite a good feeling to have done something special.

Twice in international cricket I came close to it so I thought it didn't happen before, it might not happen today.

It's a dream of any bowler to get a hat trick in the first over of a test match and I am delighted. I have put the celebrations on hold because there are still four more days left in the test match.

It is very easy to comment while sitting out but there should be a limit to everything. People (former players) forget their own past performances and start commenting, more so when they are facing the camera.

The pitch had a lot of moisture on it. There was a lot of movement off the wicket, more than there was in the air.

The wicket was pretty good. There was some moisture. The ball was doing something off the seam, but there was not much help in the air.

The ball was seaming around and it was a good pitch to bowl on. I am very happy with my achievement.
