"Hanan Daoud Khalil Ashrawi" is a Palestinian people/Palestinian legislator, activist, and scholar. She was a protégée and later colleague and close friend of Edward Said. Ashrawi was an important leader during the First Intifada, served as the official spokesperson for the Palestinian Delegation to the Middle East peace process, and has been elected numerous times to the Palestinian Legislative Council. Ashrawi is a member of Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority/Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad's Third Way (Palestinian Authority)/Third Way party. She is the first woman elected to the Palestinian National Council.

Ashrawi serves on the Advisory Board of several international and local organizations including the World Bank Middle East and North Africa (MENA), United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) and the International Human Rights Council.

This is a very serious development. We are witnessing some sort of regression in social norms. Palestine has always been famous for its tolerance, pluralism, amicable relations, lack of discrimination and sectarianism. It is quite alarming that such incidents should take place.

It seems to me as usual they are looking at the wrong address. They should look closer at home. I don't think the Sharon policy of attempting to besiege a whole people ... is a policy of utmost responsibility.

It's very clear that Mr. Barak's intentions all along have been to undermine the peace process, to evade it, to avoid it.
