We?re trying to make sure that we take advantage of this situation. Based on our record, we?re not supposed to be here, but upsets happen all the time.
Look at the number of teams in finals this weekend. That says a lot for our conference. Every night, we were in a tough game. There are some good teams ... every night was a battle.
We start off the season playing man-to-man. That?s our main defense. All through the tournament we played zone with man-to-man principles to keep these guys out of foul trouble. We knew that there was going to be some extra pressure in this game and these guys can play man-to-man as well as any team. Those last three possessions, these guys wanted it.
Alex has done a tremendous job for us.
The kids believe in themselves and what we?re trying to do.
It's unbelievable. I just tell the kids we may never get back here, so take care of what we have to take care of. Seeds don't matter. Records don't matter. Let's just go out and play.
Once we saw we were in Division IV, we got excited about the prospect. The kids came to practice with the list and we were looking at the teams.
At halftime, I told the kids that you might get this chance once in your lifetime. It was truly a privilege to be here and play a classy team like Putnam. Our kids stepped it up under adverse conditions.
Our guys stepped it up and showed so much heart. These guys wanted it. They wanted to win.
