FameRank: 4

"Fernando Javier Vargas" is a retired American boxer of Mexican descent and two-time world champion, who won a bronze medal as an amateur at the Boxing at the 1995 Pan American Games/1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. His nicknames include "Ferocious", "The Aztec Warrior" and "El Feroz". Vargas was the youngest fighter to become world light middleweight champion until Saul Alvarez won the vacant WBC belt in March 2011.

Some of Fernando's notable wins include victories over former world champions Raúl Márquez, Yori Boy Campas, Ike Quartey, and over Winky Wright. His losses to Oscar De La Hoya, Félix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, and Ricardo Mayorga remain his only career defeats and he is a favorite of American cable TV giant Home Box Office/HBO. He's also known for having problems with alcohol (and to a certain extent, drugs) which have been thought to have affected his career at times.

Fernando is very good friends with Julio César Chávez; Chavez has been part of Vargas' ring entourage in at least two fights (the fight with Trinidad and the fight with De La Hoya). Chavez was also present when Vargas proposed to his wife (and mother of his 3 boys and 1 girl) Martha Lopez Vargas.

Absolutely I'm asking for revenge.

I'm at the point in my life where I'm telling myself I'm not doing that do my body no more. I'm 27 and you can't be going up and down like that because your body ain't gonna go with you next time.

I said it before, that I need to look great for my fans and for me to demand the fight. That's what I am looking forward to.

I was wondering why they stopped the fight. I was the one pushing the action, backing him into the ropes. I definitely want a rematch. Let's see what he says.

I didn't think it was that bad. I could still see. I wasn't retreating. I would have stepped it up immensely if I thought they wanted to stop the fight. I was the one putting the pressure on him. When they stopped it, I thought they were just breaking it up.

I just pick my spots... I have always been a technician.

I was winning the fight with one eye. If I was him and I would've seen me, I would've gone for broke. But he didn't because he felt the wrath of what I carry in my right and left hands. A very few minor adjustments and I will knock him out this time. He knows I was winning. The world knows I was winning. I was winning with one eye.

This is a 230-calorie snack you know. See? I've worked hard.
