There's so much pressure to reduce bed use. Folks are being discharged in unstable conditions. My concern is that we're putting too much attention on hospital-bed utilization and having these sorts of unintended consequences.

Unfortunately, we have a growing shortage of psychiatrists, and many people find that their health insurance provides poor coverage to see a mental health professional. Often, this means they turn to their primary care physicians who may not have the time or resources to adequately treat them.
