Doug Allison
FameRank: 3

"Douglas L. Allison" was an American people/American professional baseball player. He played as a catcher for the original Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first fully professional baseball team. Allison was one of the first catchers to stand directly behind the batter, as a means to prevent baserunners from stealing bases. He was considered a specialist, at a time when some of the better batsmen who manned the position normally rested, or substituted at other fielding positions. Allison was the earliest known player to have used a baseball glove/glove, when he donned buckskin (leather)/buckskin mittens to protect his hands in 1870.

His brother Art Allison also played in the Major Leagues.

What a special moment for soccer in this state. It's special for all three of us, the one time we can come together and support the same team.

He deserves it. He's someone that's going to take players on and not be afraid of the big scene and I think that's what Bruce Arena is looking for.

He's a pretty jovial guy. He's very loyal, a very religious guy, very family-oriented young man. His mom and dad were always very important to him.

He's very competitive in training and in games. His intensity is very good and sometimes it spills over, as you can tell.

His creativity is incredible. He's one of the best college players I've ever seen. He's a complete player.

None of these guys will back down from anything. I don't think they're afraid of the big crowds or the moment. I think they'll thrive on that.
