If someone is thinking about volunteering for the Red Cross, don't wait until something happens to go through the training. When people need help, they need it right away. I was grateful for the chance to help so many people.

The granddaughter couldn't understand why they just couldn't go back home so she could play with her own toys. You could just feel the frustration from this grandmother. How difficult it was for her to stay strong and try to explain what had happened to this little girl.

Snap-on really worked with me to get the time off. I really appreciated what they did. It set an example of what a company should do so that I could go help.

They wanted someone there to talk to, someone who would listen to them. The other refugees - they had their own problems and didn't want to hear someone else's. Parents had to be strong for their kids. They would walk in with the weight of the world on their shoulders, and it made me feel good to do something.

We were watching the news and saw that they needed volunteers. It was a good opportunity for me to give something back.
