The end of the year is an especially important time for the music community, and an especially fortunate time for music fans, with a great slate of new releases in stores. We must do everything to protect the integrity of the marketplace.

Whether or not it is lawful for users to share music one on one, it is entirely different for a commercial entity to create a business that induces users to do that.

Nobody likes playing the heavy and having to resort to litigation. But when your product is being regularly stolen, there comes a time when you have to take appropriate action.

We've had the impression that there has been a decrease in the amount of illegal activity on many campuses but not all, ... That's a reflection of the fact that a legitimate alternative is not sufficient in and of itself.

As long as students continue to corrupt this specialized academic network for the flagrant theft of music, we will continue to make it clear that there are consequences for these unlawful actions.

The problem we had with the RIO was that it could exacerbate the MP3 piracy problem by encouraging more people to post illegal MP3 files and more people to download them.

This is going to be a better system.
