Microsoft's biggest problem is its [sales] channel.

Software as a service is something Microsoft wanted to pretend wasn't ever going to happen. The problem they have is that customers want it. Now more and more of the Microsoft franchise is being encroached upon, and not by a bunch of pimply kids like it was in the early Internet days, but by a company with a $100 billion market cap.

Fusion is not expected to be done until 2008, and then customers will evaluate the software through 2010. They're taking a wait-and-see approach.

Since starting the company in 1986, AMR Research has long appreciated the innovation that goes into creating new software products.

It's like saying the operation was a success, but we still have to figure out what to do with the patient's third leg. With the merger, Oracle got operating efficiency, but you have to ask yourself, what else did they get, once the dust settles.

We're still waiting to see the growth story from buying all these applications, and so far we haven't seen it.
