"William Joseph "Bill" Buckner" is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) first baseman. He appeared in MLB from 1969 through 1990. During his career, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim/California Angels, and Kansas City Royals.

Buckner accumulated over 2,700 hits in his twenty-year career, won a List of Major League Baseball batting champions/batting title in , and represented the Cubs at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game/All-Star Game the following season.

Despite his successes, Buckner is best remembered for a fielding error (baseball)/error during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets, a play that has since become prominently entrenched in New England sports lore.
