"James Arthur "Art" Pope" is a North Carolina politician, businessman, attorney and philanthropist. In January 2013, he became Budget Director for North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory (who officially called Pope his "deputy budget director" because, he said, the governor himself is the state's budget director). At the time, he was serving as CEO and board chairman of Variety Wholesalers and president and chairman of the John William Pope Foundation.

According to the News and Observer, Pope "has invested millions in a network of foundations and think tanks, and advocacy groups, both in North Carolina and nationally, that are designed to further conservative and free market ideas."[http://projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/art_pope_subject_of_new_yorker_profile Art Pope subject of New Yorker profile / newsobserver.com projects] He has supported organizations including Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity, of whose board he is a member; the John Locke Foundation (which he co-founded); and the Pope Center/John William Pope Center for Higher Education Policy.

Neither our actions as trustees, nor the court's decision, deprived Jane Pope of so much as a dime that she was entitled to. If Jane Pope appeals the court's decision, we are confident that the Superior Court and appellate courts will reach the same decision, because the law and the facts remain the same.

It's every right under the First Amendment and North Carolina statutes to inform voters how their legislators actually vote in Raleigh.
