Anil Kumble
FameRank: 6

"Anil Radhakrishna Kumble" (), (; born 17 October 1970) is a former international cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team. A right-arm leg spin (leg break googly) bowler, he took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker—only behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne—as of 2012. Unlike his contemporaries, Kumble was not a big turner of the ball, rather relied much on pace and accuracy. His ability to make the ball bounce with subtle variations in pace made him a tough bowler to face for the batsmen; thus earning him the sobriquet "Jumbo". Kumble was selected as the Indian Cricket (annual)/Indian Cricket Cricketer of the Year in 1993 and one of the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack/Wisden Wisden Cricketers of the Year/Cricketers of the Year three years later.

It's a great feeling as it was a special Test for me.

My strength has been the self-belief that has helped me perform at this level. My teammates and family have always been behind me, no matter what happens.

Having been there for 15 years I have learnt to take things positively and focus on improving my game and bettering my performance.

The pitch has not changed character at all.

It's a great feeling to reach the milestone. To become the first-ever Indian makes it more special. It's indeed very special since only five bowlers have done it in the world.

He has on occasions assumed the role of a captain and that should serve him in good stead.

That is the way I get most of my wickets. Yeah, it was very special to get there.

No comments, ... I have nothing to say in this matter.

It's a great feeling to be able to get to this milestone.
