This is a stark reminder that there's no evidence that online sex offender registries increase public safety. In fact, they might just do the opposite.

Civil liberties groups, conservative groups, immigration groups ? we've all been saying that Real ID will be a real disaster and needs to be revisited by Congress.

The only time the commissioner can do that is when there is a substantial health and safety threat. It is a fundamentally different bill than when they started.

They should not be making any changes to the online registry unless they can determine that, indeed, the registry increases public safety. We think they never should have created it. They should just pull it immediately.

We are pleased there is a specific restriction on law enforcement having access to this new database.
