The City has an obligation to compensate victims for damages The City causes. At the same time, we have an obligation to taxpayers to ensure we only compensate when The City is liable.

State law generally requires the city to indemnify and defend city employees in litigation arising out of the performance of their duties. We evaluate each case based on their individual facts and circumstances to determine whether any exceptions to this general rule apply.
