Alexis Carrel
FameRank: 6

"Alexis Carrel" was a French people/French surgeon and biologist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912 for pioneering vascular suturing techniques. He invented the first perfusion pump with Charles A. Lindbergh opening the way to organ transplantation. Like many intellectuals before World War II he promoted eugenics.

He was a regent for the French Foundation for the Study of Human Problems during Vichy France which implemented the eugenics policies there; his association with the Foundation led to investigations of collaborating with the Nazis but no conclusions were reached by the investigations. He faced constant media attacks towards the end of his life over his alleged involvement with the Nazis.

A prominent Nobel Prize laureate in 1912, Alexis Carrel was also elected twice, in 1924 and 1927, as an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Life leaps like a geyser for those who drill through the rock of inertia.

All of us, at certain moments of our lives, need to take advice and to receive help from other people.

Like hatred, jealousy is forbidden by the laws of life because it is essentially destructive.

A few observation and much reasoning lead to error; many observations and a little reasoning to truth.

All great men are gifted with intuition. They know without reasoning or analysis, what they need to know.

The quality of life is more important than life itself.

The mug is a tool. My ace in the hole. To have looks is the bonus on top of what motivates me to be an actor. Not to realize they're an asset would be counterproductive to the cause; they serve the common good.

To accomplish our destiny it is not enough to merely guard prudently against road accidents. We must also cover before nightfall the distance assigned to each of us.

The first duty of society is to give each of its members the possibility of fulfilling his destiny. When it becomes incapable of performing this duty it must be transformed.

Everyone makes a greater effort to hurt other people than to help himself.

Intuition comes very close to clairvoyance; it appears to be the extrasensory perception of reality.
